Boycott mentality of Congress regarding Ram Mandir invite accused by BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress of having a “boycott” mentality towards national events such as the consecration of Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Sudhanshu Trivedi, national spokesperson of the BJP, said that Congress had ignored invitations to participate in events of national importance such as the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The party alleged that it is because of this attitude that people are boycotting Congress. Trivedi cited past incidents such as the opposition party’s boycott of the Bharat Ratna ceremony of Pranab Mukherjee, a member of their party.
Congress has declined the invitation to attend the Ram Mandir event in Ayodhya on January 22. In a statement, party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that while Lord Ram is worshipped by millions in the country, religion is a personal matter, and the RSS/BJP have made a political project out of the temple in Ayodhya. They accused the leaders of the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of bringing forward the incomplete temple’s inauguration for electoral gain.
Trivedi alleged that Congress had opposed several national events and changes such as the implementation of GST and even the Kargil Vijay Diwas. Despite the BJP’s frequent persuasion, the party only started holding a symbolic event for the Kargil Vijay Diwas after years of neglect.
The consecration of Ram temple in Ayodhya is a historic event for India, marking the end of a struggle that has lasted for 500 years. The Congress’s decision to stay away from the event has drawn criticism from BJP, which claims that the opposition party’s boycott mentality is the reason for its declining support among the people.
