Renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj has been chosen to create the Ram Lalla idol for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The idol will be installed in the ‘garbhagriha’ or sanctum sanctorum of the temple during a mega-consecration ceremony on January 22. After being shortlisted with two other skilled artisans, Yogiraj started working on the idol in June 2023 in Ayodhya and completed it after six months of hard work.
The stone used for making the idol, Krishna Shila, came as a surprise to many due to its bluish-grey color. However, the stone was selected after being tested for its suitability. Yogiraj’s wife Vijetha Arun Yogiraj explained that Krishna Shila is a monolithic stone that does not react to any substances like acid and can withstand any weather conditions. The stone was also tested through all possible methods to ensure it would last for 1,000 years.
Arun Yogiraj comes from a five-generation family of artists and chose to become a professional sculptor instead of pursuing a corporate job. His family is elated at his selection, and they were informed by the media. The family was thrilled that all three idols would be installed in the temple itself.
